Today is laundry day. Yes when you are vacationing this is a big deal and requires planning. We knew that there was no self service laundromat in town so last night we got out the clothes that needed cleaning and separated them into dark and light.
From our research and walking around town we knew where the laundry places were. I took the two bags to Doli in the morning and for about $23 per load she would wash, dry, and fold it. It would be ready this afternoon. Vacationing is hard work.
Insert Matterhorn Mountain in this photo. It's supposed to be there. Right there. Look hard.
We shopped around town, walked up to the start of a major trail, and then had a ham sandwich each for lunch.
I needed a haircut and Karen had a few more shops to see before the town museum opened at 2pm so it seemed like a good time to split up for an hour. The hair dresser lady had another appointment so she couldn't do mine right now, but 9:30am tomorrow was open. I thanked her and walked out. I took two steps and decided that our schedule tomorrow could handle a 15 min haircut at that time so I went back in and made an appt.
I returned to our hotel to return our coats since the sun was out now and I counted some sheep that I'd missed in Venice.
We met at the museum at 2pm and had a very nice trip back in time inside.
The exhibits were underground like you were in an archeological dig. There were old buildings and tools from back when the mountains were first climbed and when the town started to grow up. It was very unusual and entertaining.
Excerpts of the 1938 movie, The Mountain Calls, were shown and there were scenes projected onto a collapsing Matterhorn structure. We sat there for 30 min watching it.
An area devoted to those who lost there lives was somber. About 12 people per year still die climbing the Matterhorn.
Someone had made a model of the Matterhorn and had lighted it to show the various routes up the mountain.
This all took a couple of hours to finish. We ended up at the hotel again before heading out for a great hamburger dinner at the Brown Cow Pub. Gorgonzola cheese, garlic, and onions made up the Stinky Burger for me while Karen just had to order the Matterhorn Burger no matter what it had on it!
My MATTERHORN LADY!
No, not gonna happen.
The best that the mountain looked all day today.
Pat's hat is the best shot here...dad
