05-12 Gardaland Amusement Park

We got up early to catch the 9:30am free shuttle from the train station to Gardaland, our amusement park fix in Italy. We had purchased our tickets from our hotel at a nice discount so we only had to wait until 10am for the park to open.

This country just doesn't do lines well. They just fill in every available square inch and keep pushing forward.

In an effort to do some sort of crowd control they have these little babies. ALT means to stop. Those of you in the left line can continue to enter through the turnstiles until the counter reaches ALT. It actually works for them.

We went on the #1 new ride in their park first, a roller coaster called Raptor, that is a definite Top Ten roller coaster. Instead of sitting OVER the tracks in a car you are sitting alongside the track. The first drop with no track under you is thrilling.

We continued to move around the park in a clockwise fashion riding rides that were on Karen's list of "don't miss".

They had a "Pirate Boat" ride that was underground (sounds familiar) but I don't have any pictures that would show you what it looked like. Here is Karen's description: "Well I thought this would be better than this. Nice theming, long dark ride. They get points for all the scenes. But done really cheaply; disappointing because the theming here on the outside looks pretty good."

Lunch was fried chicken and a burger. Karen wasn't feeling well at this point and didn't eat much lunch.

Here's an interesting photo. When they go on a ride they will just hand their backpacks outside the ride. Sometimes they just have an area where you pile them all up.

Some of these are in the US but we had never ridden one until today. Three times going upside down like this was plenty for us. Check it off the list and move on to something we like better.

Hey, elephant topiaires. Wait a minute. Haven't I seen these somewhere before?

Cafeteria style food was available

This is what they do with their trays when they are done eating.

Prices are in Euros. Add 33% for US$ prices.

They had a ride like Buzz Lightyear where you shoot a beam of light at targets and you try to beat your ride buddy's score.

They had other rides like the Tea Cups, a People Mover, a long, slow kiddie roller coaster, and a log ride in the area we were in.

Here are a few more choices for food to eat.

Karen has this water bottle holder that goes over the top of a water bottle. You can then strap it to your belt loop on your pants. I opened a bottle of water and THEN tried to put the holder on. Ooops. Their bottle material is so thin the top collapsed down and the resulting geyser gave me quite a shock and a shower.

We love rides that go high up and where you can get a view of the park. They had one.

Kiddie Ride area with a cool tree house.

Raptor cresting the lift hill and starting the first drop.

There was a roller coaster that was surprisingly just like Big Thunder Mountain.

They have souvenirs that look surprisingly like Disney souvenirs.

They have nice theming on a lot of the rides.

We had a great time on our first day at Gardaland.

  1. With the ride variety was this an enjoyment or were you too critical because of your past coaster experience ? dad
