Back by popular demand is another guest blog from Karen about our leisurely day in Sorrento.
Relaxing start today. We are staying in Sorrento today. Breakfast ends at 9:30a and the shuttle to town (a 4 mile drive) is at 10:00a. Darn, there's only two potatoes left, no strawberries, and hardly any eggs. Bummer. This is what breakfast looks like when you get up early enough. It is wonderful.
We catch the 10a shuttle to town. Wandering around we go into that Disney Store I found the first day. Almost got a cute pink Mickey Sorrento T-shirt but they only had kids sizes and the XL 100% cotton shirt was too tight. Too bad. Did buy a very small Tigger to hang on my camera.
Next we found an Inlaid Wood Museum. At $8e each it was a little much for what was there. A bio on some of the area's artists in this field. Some very old stuff and some nice items, but no info on this is how they are made. We found this out talking to three different relatives of three different Sorrento wood inlaid artists while wondering through shops in town. These pieces will help to make the picture below it.
Pat did Internet research this morning and found me three different hair salons to check out to get my hair colored today. I choose the second one and make an appointment for 3:30 after they get back from their lunch siesta. Ok, with that set, we start our shopping, museum seeing and lunch.
Back at the hair salon I try to communicate what I want. Same color as the bottom of my hair and I've decided for the first time to get highlights in my hair. Their hair colorist doesn't understand English but the main guy in the shop does. I think he is the only one in this shop who does. So for the next two and a half hours I'm surrounded by Italians and don't known anything they are saying. (I think everyone in these small towns brings their kids to work with them. When they're are doing there job whoever is available watches or entertains the child.)
She does a great job with the coloring. Then he blows dry my hair. Another girl washed and did my hair rinses. They all work together like a good team. Looks really good. Pat's outside when I walk out. He likes it too. Now let's get dinner.
I get a pizza that doesn't have much flavor; Pat has a strange hamburger. Strange because it has two patties next to each other on like a sub sandwich bread and he has them add mozzarella cheese to it.They're famous for their mozzarella cheese and lemons here.
After dinner we go back to the wood inlaid place we visited this morning near the museum and buy a small piece to remind us of Sorrento. The lady nicely explained the difference between hand-made and saw cut inlaid wood to us a few hours before. We bought a small hand-made piece. Earlier I bought an "S" (for Sorrento) charm bead for my bracelet. Time for gelato and head back to the meeting place for our shuttle.
Pat nmust have gotten his hair done too but they forgot to do the front part. Karen's looks great and I like it. Hope that photo was taken after the hairdresser visit, otherwise I am in deep do do......dad
