As long as we were STAYING in Nice we might as well take in some of the sites. But first...Karen and I had purchased a few souvenirs in Disneyland Paris and we found a few more things in the past few days. We couldn't haul them all over Europe with us so we're shipping them home. The Post Office was a block away. He had boxes but no bubble wrap. He described to us where to go to get it, we found it, went back to him for the boxes, and headed for our room to pack up our stuff. We shipped it off and headed off to explore Nice.
Nice has a rock area similar to Monaco. They don't use it the same though. Where Monaco put the Prince on the rock, Nice put a nice park area. Before we tackled the task of climbing the 294 stairs we went foraging for food. We found pizza in a nice little place. There was this guy "encouraging" people to come inside and buy his pizza. He was a characture of an Italian Pizza Man - big ol' mustache, stocky build, parisian beret, and a booming voice. And his pizza WAS great. Here is Karen getting ready to enjoy a slice.
NOW we were ready for the climb. We kinda shopped or browsed our way through the open air market on our way to THE NAME OF THE HILL. We climbed the stairs to each of the lookout areas and took pictures of the city. They even had an elevator that you could take if you wanted for $1.20e. We opted for the exercise and the better pictures - elevators are notorious for bad pictures.
They do really cool stuff with colored rocks in their concrete walkways. You never know when you will find a new pattern.
Near the top the views were great and city in the sunshine was at it best.
We were happy for the sunshine and the gelato that awaited us in the cafe at the top of the park.
We finished our walk and then drove down the coast a little more ways to see what we could find. There was nothing along the way other than beautiful scenery and we eventually headed back to the hotel since this was another moving day. We opted for an old time favorite for dinner - Subway.
We would have loaned you bubble wrap. By the way, 2+ weeks into this three-month adventure, are you still speaking to one another?? -- greg
