We drove to Italy today just to say we did. It's only a few miles past Monaco. This allowed us to drive some more along the coast on our way back to Monte Carlo. The town was all abuzz about the Grand Prix event happening in five weeks. Many grandstands were already set up and the race course was marked with those huge banners over the streets.
This isn't just ANY tunnel. This is the famous Monaco tunnel that the race drivers drive in. It WAS really cool to recognize it as I driving. I think I raised my voice a bit AND hit the gas as I entered.
So in my dreams I rented a Ferrari and did a few time test laps. Actually it was in my rented Peugeot. Karen filmed it and I can speed up the action in postproduction.
While I was on the race course I spotted THIS speedster trying to overtake me.
And this one too!
Most of our day was spent "on the rock". This is where Prince Rainier lives when he lives here. There are also many narrow streets with food, clothing, souvenir shops, museums, government offices, and many lovely viewpoints overlooking the water.
This seemed like just another coastal town with many cute shots. I don't really remember that the people dressed any differently but there's probably more tourists than citizens and yacht owners walking the streets. One thing they DID have that was different was an abundance of BIG boats.
We drove back to Nice along the coast and stopped occasionally to take more pictures of water splashing against rocks.
Your blogs are insightful, but don't do them in lieu of enjoying your travels. By the way, you're going to miss a phenomenal concert June 30. -- greg
